Description
The seven deadly sins in Christian spirituality were first formulated by the Desert Fathers as the eight principal faults: greed, gluttony, lust, sadness, anger, acedia, pride, vanity.
Drawing on the wisdom of the Desert teachers, Fr. Laurence sees these inner struggles in non-judgemental terms. They are, he says patterned states of mind that stem from the human quest for truth, for wholeness, for God; we revert to excesses to fill the void. These addictive patterns can be overcome through the ascesis and discipline of a deep and faithful spiritual practice. Meditation, Fr. Laurence says is the essential ascesis of the Christian life.
