One cause of distractions in meditation, Fr Joe says, can be a lack of physical conditioning.  He teaches some simple breathing and stretching exercises to prepare the body for meditation and help in sitting “upright and still” as John Main taught.

Fr. Joe Pereira is the WCCM Indian national coordinator. He is also a teacher of lyengar yoga.  In January 2009, he received the Padma Shri Award from the Indian Government for contributions in the field of social work in India.
